Meet Nica Uy

What is your personal mantra or motto?

Be kind, tell the truth, and always do your best.

Please tell us about your professional background and what led you to pursue a career at MorganFranklin?

I started out my career at Ernst & Young as an audit associate. Coming out of public accounting, I was interested in MorganFranklin by the idea of being on the other side and becoming a trusted and reliable advisor that could help my clients solve problems and succeed. MorganFranklin has trained me and gave me the confidence to become that person.

What is your role at MorganFranklin, and what do you do?

I am a manager specializing in technical accounting and financial reporting. Throughout my career at MorganFranklin, I have been involved in interesting and challenging projects, such as audit readiness, financial reporting, material weakness remediations, financial restatements, business process improvement, and of course, technical accounting.

When you immigrated from the Philippines to the US, you shared that you had to retake the CPA exam. How did that impact your career?

Having to go through and pass the CPA exam twice has instilled in me a deep appreciation of the accounting profession and has given me the discipline and work ethic that I apply to all my projects.

What inspires you in the work you do at MorganFranklin?

At MorganFranklin, we do meaningful work—and that is inspiring. We go above and beyond to help our clients succeed. It’s always satisfying to roll off from a project, knowing that we’ve made a difference and the client is in a better position than they were in before.

What advice would you give to someone hoping to pursue a career at MorganFranklin?

Do it! You cannot go wrong if you pursue a career at MorganFranklin. You will learn a lot and meet a lot of talented and interesting people.

How would your colleagues describe you?

I hope that they would describe me as a true and reliable team player. In every project that I engage in, I always strive to build rapport and cultivate trust with my team members. I believe success is inevitable if you have a good team.

Outside of your professional skills, you have a hidden talent! Tell us more about your time in the all-girl band, “She Said Yes.” 

My friends and I decided to form a band, so that we could join a concert benefiting ANCOP. ANCOP, Answering the Cry of the Poor, is a charity that helps send poor children in the Philippines to school. For months, we spent many long nights practicing for the event, and at the end of it all, it was a very fruitful and rewarding experience.

If you could have any famous musician or singer play alongside you in your former band, who would it be?

The Supremes, since we covered one of their songs. Or Adele, because she’s Adele!
