GREAT TEAMS START WITH GREAT PEOPLE.
Meet TJ Gilkey.
What is your role at MorganFranklin, and what do you do?
I work in the Accounting & Transaction Services group, mainly focusing on Risk Advisory services.
What do you particularly enjoy about the work you do, and why did you choose to work at MorganFranklin Consulting?
I enjoy being part of the day-to-day solution for our clients using skills developed over the course of my career. MorganFranklin has given me the opportunity to apply my audit and technical accounting experience to unique and complex challenges.
What’s one go-to office or WFH hack that makes your day more productive?
I try to check my email the night before to know what I am going into the next day. Starting the day with a clean inbox (to the extent possible) makes it easier to get started rather than playing catch-up from the moment I log on.
You have a passion for sports, from college football and basketball to baseball and golf. If you had to pick only one sports team or player to root for in each sport, which would you choose?
Being from Kentucky, I would have to choose the University of Kentucky’s basketball team. Few college athletic programs can match UK basketball’s tradition and prolonged success. The excitement the UK fans have for their basketball team is unmatched, and I love being a part of the Big Blue Nation.
Bonus question: what is your favorite golf course?
My favorite golf course is Augusta National Golf Club which hosts the Masters Tournament every April. The course is in pristine condition for the tournament every year, and it’s a sign that spring has arrived.
We’ve heard that you’re an avid reader – what is your favorite genre and why?
I love reading and studying United States history. History provides a unique situation in that it allows us to analyze the past while being in the present – a true 20/20 hindsight. It gives us perspective and reasoning of why things are the way they are and how we go about continuous improvement.
What three things do you need to be successful in your role at MorganFranklin?
You need a good teammate, to strive to be part of the solution, and be willing to learn and ask questions.
What is your proudest moment at MorganFranklin, and why?
My proudest moment was helping lead a client from having no SOX program to receiving their first SOX certification after going public. Building a SOX program from scratch and taking it all the way to the compliance stage is a long journey, but it was very rewarding to see the end goal accomplished.
Can you share what you are looking forward to learning professionally next?
I look forward to following the FASB’s decision regarding their accounting and disclosure rules for companies holding cryptocurrency assets and how that may impact our clients, specifically in the financial services industry.
